too much coffee, too little sleep

Flexing my drawing muscles

Why, I do think I still have them. MEDIUM: water color pencils. SIZE: 768 x 1024 A little background? This is a very old concept art I had for a comic book story I was planning to make with Frank. It's based on the Binyan myth that seeks to explain why the tides rise during full moon. It's my favorite ancient Filipino myth, so... I got the inspiration for the fish dude's bright colors from a parrot fish that I ate for dinner last night. 0.O

An Excerpt from the Diary of Takya

DATE: October 22, 2009 DAY: Thursday TIME: 8:26 p.m. LISTENING TO: Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Zero Oh, happy dagger! I think about suicide sometimes. I entertain the thought chiefly for aesthetic or literary purposes so there is no need for much alarm. Like a writer who creates scenes in his mind, I wonder about the many different ways of killing myself. You see, I am not worried about being dead, for what could be more natural? I, who am dying, the moment I was born? What concerns me is the dying part -- or rather more precisely, the excruciating pain that I am convinced must accompany the last breath I expel from this body. For I am afraid of pain (and I talk about the grandiose kind, not the dull, gradual sort of ache experienced everyday with each molecule of oxygen that enters the bloodstream or the kind of little death that one suffers each time one falls in love), so I think about how to end my life with the least suffering involved. How shall I die? For most people there

A Conversation with my Nephew

Maybe it's just me but I never fail to enjoy teasing my 5-year-old nephew, Thirdy. ME: Titi. (NOTE: titi is an old Visayan term for "older brother;" it's barely used these days) THIRDY: Dili Titi! (I'm not Titi!) ME: Ingon ba diay ko ikaw Titi? (Was I referring to you?) THIRDY: Kinsa Titi? (Then who is Titi?) ME: Ikaw. (You.) Sometimes, the teasing would take the form of: ME: Bye, Titi! THIRDY: Dili Titi! ME: Aw di diay? Kinsa diay ka? (No? Then who are you?) THIRDY: Spider-man. ME: Bye, Titi Spider-man. And chaos ensues. XD Ah kids. They're cute and all but I prefer to keep them at armslength while teasing them mercilessly.
